History

Fordras S.A. was incorporated in Lugano, Switzerland in 1983 for the purpose of marketing active pharmaceutical ingredients and food additives. Although independent, Fordras’ history is intrinsically linked with that of its associated companies, the PROSPA Group, in particular with SPA Societá Prodotti Antibiotici, and SOLAR Chemical S.A.

Only after Fordras’ licensing of SPA’s Lysozyme production know-how in 1987, Fordras’ management decided to dedicate substantial resources to egg derived proteins in general, and to Lysozyme in particular.

Paradoxically, the decline of Lysozyme in western medicine as the anti-viral therapy of choice created at that time an opportunity to develop new applications. Lysozyme’s well-known a-toxic and organic nature, along with its anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, made it an ideal compound for the food industry.

Over the last 20 years, Fordras’ management team and a talented pool of researchers have developed a broad range of applications in the pharmaceutical, food, health and beauty industries for Lysozyme, Avidin and Ovotransferrin.

It is with the same innovative spirit that we look to the next 20 years, and commit to developing natural alternatives to the use of chemicals, to expanding the use of our current products as well as to bringing our pipeline of new proprietary products to the market.
